Hello everybody!
Are you ready for the Feria? This is one of the most exciting moments of the year and you are here to join it!

¡Hola a todo el mundo!
¿Estáis preparados para la Feria? Este es uno de los acontecimientos más importantes del año ¡y vosotros estáis aquí para celebrarlo!

Here are some importants reminders:

Academics:
  • Re-entry workshop: Tuesday, April 23rd & Wednesday, April 24th at 5:00 PM at CEA Global Campus. You should have received a survey to sign up for this.  Please do so ASAP.
    • Most of you might have dealt with some culture shock coming to Seville, but what about going back home? While you may think that it will be easy to re-acclimate, you would be surprised. Some of if not all of you will go through reverse culture shock, and many past study abroad students find it more difficult than actually going abroad. This workshop will explain the process and provide tips on how to deal with academic and social/cultural shock.

Housing:
  • Reminder: Next week, April 15-21 (Feria), there will be no cleaning services in the apartments.
  • Please make sure that you lock your apartments when you are not in them, and that you should not let anybody in unless you are expecting them.

Students Services:

Activities sponsored by CEA
  • Bullfights: Today Thursday 11th we will meet you at 6:00 PM at the bullring (plaza de toros). If you don´t remember the day you signed up for, please stop by the front desk and ask a member of the staff.

Activities not Sponsored by CEA

Student Committee's activities:
  • Soup Kitchen: A great way to get involved and give back to your community is by volunteering at local establishments. On a Sunday TBD you can go to the soup kitchen, prepare food, and then serve it to those who are less fortunate.
If you want to give back but can’t make a time commitment, please bring in a non-perishable food item  CEA and the student committee will organize it and bring it to the soup kitchen or ONG organization. You have until 2 weeks before the last day of the semester (Friday, may 3rd) to turn in non-perishable food items so the student committee can donate it.
Food Drive:

Clothes drive: At the end of the semester when you're packing to go home, I bet you will notice that you have accumulated a lot of clothes you don't want anymore, books you won't bring back, etc.  If you want to donate them instead of throwing them away, bring them to CEA and together with the student committee and ONG organazations we can donate them to people in need.

  • If you are interested in doing activities where nature plays an important role, check out this website: http://naturanda.com/#/products-page1 With this company you can discover all Andalucía   from differents points of view !!!
OFFICE HOURS DURING FERIA

CEA will be open 9:00-3:00 Monday-Friday,
except Wednesday April 17th we will be closed for a public holiday.

Here’s a little information about the Feria…
The April fair started back in 1846 as a livestock fair, but it didn’t take long for an air of festivity to take
over! These days it consists of dancing, dressing up in typical trajes de flamenco, drinking, riding in horse drawn carriages, and generally just having a great time! People get together in casetas which are tents with decorations, and a lot of food. Typically they are privately owned and you need an invitation to get in, but there are some public tents. The fair is well known nationwide and one of the biggest fairs there is! People come from all over the world to attend.
If you really want to live the Fair in an Andalusian way then let me tell you that the Feria day" is not over" until you have a cup of "caldo del puchero" (traditional Spanish soup made with chicken, meat, chick peas...) and a good dessert,  either "churros" or "buñuelos".

The Feria is a time to enjoy yourselves. With that being said, we would like to give you some recommendations for your safety during the fair:

Into the culture...

Tapas bar recommendation:

El Rincón de Murillo Calle Lope de Rueda (Right next to CEA!)
This place has some great typical tapas and local meats and cheeses.  Check it out between classes!

Spanish Recipe of the day: Churros

We have talked about this dessert above on this post, and here is the recipe in case you want to know what it is exactly and how people make it! Hope you like it as much as we do!

Ingredients:
1 cup water
2 1/2 tablespoons white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 quarts oil for frying
1/2 cup white sugar, or to taste
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions
1.In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water, 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Stir in flour until mixture forms a ball.
2.Heat oil for frying in deep-fryer or deep skillet to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Pipe strips of dough into hot oil using a pastry bag. Fry until golden; drain on paper towels.
3.Combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll drained churros in cinnamon and sugar mixture.

That's all folks!  Have an incredible Feria and be safe in all your travels.  See you soon!
