Hola students!
How was your weekend? Did you get out and enjoy the sunshine a little bit?  We hope you had a good time on our excursion to Jerez and Cadiz… I n the end we were lucky that it was sunny.

¡Hola estudiantes!
¿Cómo fue vuestro fin de semana? ¿Habéis podido salir y disfrutar del sol? Esperamos que lo pasarais muy bien la excursión a Jerez y Cádiz… Al final, que suerte que hizo sol.

Here are some important updates and reminders:

Academics:
  • Re-entry workshop: Tuesday, April 23rd  & Wednesday, April 24th at 5:00 PM at CEA Global Campus. You will be sent a survey to sign up for a date soon.
    • Most of you might have dealt with some culture shock coming to Seville, but what about going back home?  While you may think that it will be easy to re-acclimate, you would be surprised.  Some of if not all of you will go through reverse culture shock, and many past study abroad students find it more difficult than actually going abroad.  This workshop will explain the process and provide tips on how to deal with academic and social/cultural shock.
  •   Alumni Ambassadors:  Apply to be an Alumni Ambassador TODAY (This is one of the best ways you can deal with re-entry blues… keep your study abroad experience alive, don’t let it fade out!)
Housing:
  • Reminder: Next week, April 15-21 (Feria), there will be no cleaning services in the apartments.
Student Services:
  • Ready for the Bullfight???  If you can’t remember if you signed up on Wednesday April 10th orThursday April 11th, stop by reception and we can tell you.  We will be meeting at 6:00 PM in front of the Plaza de Toros.
  •   The student committee is planning several great activities for everyone to participate in.  If you are interested, let us know ASAP!
o   Kayaking on the Rio Guadalquivir:  Now that the weather is warmer and the sun is out, doesn’t kayaking down the river sound like a great way to soak up the rays and get some exercise?  The committee is organizing a group to go and do just this, the date will be announced ASAP and will be around 6 PM.
o   Soup Kitchen: A great way to get involved and give back to your community is by volunteering at local establishments.  On a Sunday TBD you can go to the soup kitchen, prepare food, and then serve it to those who are less fortunate.
o   Food Drive: If you want to give back but can’t make a time commitment, please bring in a non-perishable food item OR clothes that you no longer wear and would like to donate to CEA and the student committee will organize it and bring it to the soup kitchen or ONG organization.  The time and days you can do this will be announced on Thursday’s blog.

Next week is la Feria de Abril! Are you looking forward to witnessing one of the most exciting events in Seville and Spain???

Office hours during the April Fair:
CEA will be open 9:00-3:00 Monday-Friday,
except Wednesday April 17th we will be closed for a public holiday.

Here’s a little information about the Feria…

The April fair started back in 1846 as a livestock fair, but it didn’t take long for an air of festivity to take over! These days it consists of dancing, dressing up in typical trajes de flamenco, drinking, riding in horse drawn carriages, and generally just having a great time! People get together in casetas which are tents with decorations, and a lot of food.  Typically they are privately owned and you need an invitation to get in, but there are some public tents.  The fair is well known nationwide and one of the biggest fairs there is! People come from all over the world to attend.
The Feria is a time to enjoy yourselves.  With that being said, we would like to give you some recommendations for your safety during the fair:

Spanish Recipe of the day: Mojo Picón sauce

In the Canary Islands, mojos or sauces are made with vinegar and oil and served cold, as an accompaniment to potatoes, meat and fish. These mojos can be red or green and sometimes spicy, as is the mojo picon. Serve this sauce as canarios do - to accompany a meal, or serve it as a tapa with home-fried potatoes or patatas arrugadas – wrinkled potatoes.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

 Ingredients:

•4 dried red peppers – bell or any other non-spicy red pepper

•1-2 slices stale white bread – crusts trimmed if very dry
•3-4 cloves garlic, peeled
 •1/4 tsp ground cumin
•2 tsp red pepper flakes
•1/2 tsp coarse salt
•1 cup extra virgin Spanish olive oil
•1/4 cup (approximately) water or chicken broth
•Spanish sherry vinegar to taste

Preparation:
1.   This red pepper sauce recipe makes about 1.5 cups.
2. Soak the dried red bell peppers in a bowl or pan of warm water for 10-15 minutes to soften and rehydrate them. After soaking, drain water and remove the stems.
3. Slice the garlic cloves. Break bread into quarters and set aside.
4.Process the peppers, cumin, garlic slices, hot pepper flakes and salt in a food processor or blender to create a paste. While blending, drizzle in olive oil gradually. Alternately add small pieces of the bread and small amounts of water or broth until the sauce is thick, but not as thick as a paste. Add 1-2 tsp vinegar or more, according to your taste.
5.If you will not use the sauce the same day, store in a glass jar, (such as the jars made for canning), then cover the sauce with olive oil, seal tightly and refrigerate.
6.Serve with potatoes, meat or fish.

That's all folks! Have a great week :)
