Activities not sponsored by CEA

  •  The Banco de alimentos (Food bank) de Sevilla will be doing a food drive, operación kilo, at a local shopping center on April 6th. They are looking for volunteers to help with the effort. Volunteers commit to an AM (10-14) or PM (15-18 or 18-22) shift to work reception point, puntos de recogido, at the local shopping center to pass out bags and receive donations. This is a great way to help out those in need while you are here in Sevilla, and to practice your Spanish. If you are interested, please sign-up by Tuesday AM. Interested people will receive further information about times, vocabulary, etc.

  • Visit the often overlooked Museo Militar (Military Museum) in the Plaza de España. The museum is really impressive, with just about everything: uniforms, medals, toy soldiers, guns, swords, ammunition, medical kits a library and two large replicas: one of the old city center with the complete defensive walls and another of the artillery factory. You'll find the entrance on the first floor (the level above the main plaza which many visitors never get to).

Into the culture...

Tapas bar recommendation: El Rinconcillo

This Tavern-Restaurant is a classic of tapas and eating in Seville. Its centric location, its tradition and good performance makes it a ’must’ visit not only for the foreigners, but also for the native of Seville. A place for gatherings, Holly Week fans, and frequented by all type of famous people, where generations of sevillian people follow from grandparents to parents and from parents to their children.
Location: Calle Gerona, 40

Spanish Recipe of the day: Ensalada campera

Ingredients:
  • 6 eggs
  • 6 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 green bell pepper, seeded and diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, seeded and diced
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 1 large fresh tomato, chopped
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tuna, drained
  • 1/2 cup green olives with pimento or anchovy, halved
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
 Directions:

1. Place egg in a saucepan, and cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil, and immediately remove from heat. Cover, and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water, cool, and peel. Cut eggs into quarters, and set aside.

2. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes, and cook until tender but still firm, about 15 minutes. Drain, and transfer to a large bowl.

3. Toss potatoes with eggs, bell peppers, onion, tomato, tuna, green olives, olive oil, and vinegar. Season to taste with salt. Refrigerate, and serve cold

 That´s all folks,
enjoy your weekend!
